Meet Our New Executive Chef!
Get ready for an exciting culinary experience! We're thrilled to introduce Donnie Munro as our new Executive Business Development Chef.
We carried out a Q&A to get a taste of Donnie's impressive background:
- Q: What sparked your passion for cooking?
- A: My culinary journey began at home, inspired by my mum's delicious cooking. I craved a career that allowed me to travel the world, and hospitality perfectly fit the bill. I started as a commis chef while attending college to earn my City & Guilds qualification in professional cookery. Over the years, I honed my skills in various catering establishments, working my way up the ranks while traveling from Glasgow to Northern Scotland, London, Dubai, and even Australia!
- Q: What are the key ingredients for becoming a successful chef?
- A: Passion is the foundation! Starting by working with the best chefs is a fantastic way to learn. Understanding the ingredients and sourcing high-quality produce is crucial, and here in Scotland, we're fortunate to have an abundance of that. Finally, focus on the style of cuisine you want to create, catering to today's customer who is more adventurous than ever. Remember, success comes down to satisfying your customers and keeping your financials in check.
- Q: Can you share some highlights from your culinary career?
- A: I've been privileged to cook for celebrities like Jack Nicholson, Michael Douglas, Billy Connolly, Lenny Henry, and even royalty. But the most rewarding experience will always be creating culinary delights with my daughter, Cassie.
- Q: Why are you excited to be part of the Dunns team?
- A: I'm thrilled to join the growing food-focused team at Dunns Food and Drinks. We all understand the pressures chefs face, having experience working in kitchens across Scotland. Together with our new sales team, we're committed to helping you find the perfect products to satisfy your customers.
- Q: Do you have a signature dish?
- A: While I don't have one favourite dish to cook, I adore creating tapas – whether it's Spanish-inspired or small Italian plates.
- Q: What do you enjoy doing when you're not whipping up culinary creations?
- A: Travel is a passion, and I love attending live music events. Occasionally, I sneak in a round of golf as well!
